Houston, TX – The Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center of Houston presents Dance Month at the Kaplan Theatre January 10 – February 9, 2014. Dance Month continues to spotlight prominent choreographers, master teachers, companies and dancers. The month-long event includes performances by:

TIRKEDU HOUSTON!
Friday, January 10 – Sunday, January 12
Featuring Yaron Carmel, a gifted Israeli folk dance teacher from Israel, marathon-runner, producer of the largest folk dances and organizer for annual trips for dancers.
Fees:  $70 ERJCC m/$100 p/$50 students with valid student ID

MOTION CAPTURED, DANCE ON FILM Pre-show

Fees:  $18 ERJCC m/$24 p/$12 seniors and students
Houston Choreographers X6, an evening of intriguing local professional up and coming artists will present exciting new works.  As a pre-show to Houston Choreographers X6, experience the visual feast of Motion Captured, Dance on Film that features site-specific, innovative choreography that combines dance and technology. Choreographers commissioned this season are Rebekah Chappell, Randall Flinn, Ashley Horn, Kristina Koutsoudas, Cori Miller, and Heather Nabors.

 

FOUR IN THE MIX
Saturday, February 1  8:00 p.m. ● Concert
Fees:  $18 ERJCC m/$24 p/$12 seniors and students
Four pre-professional dance companies are brought together for an evening of dance, presenting works ranging in style from hip hop to contemporary.  They are Dance of Asian America, HBLV 8, USDC2 and Inertia.

 

WOMAN TO WOMAN: A conversation with Carolyn Dorfman
Wednesday, February 5, 2014 – 9:30 – 11:00 a.m.
Free and Open to the Public. Carolyn Dorfman, founder and artistic director of her nationally recognized modern dance company, discusses the arts and “dance with a capital D.” Dorfman is the recipient of numerous artistic and civic awards including the Jewish Women in the Arts Award from the Jewish Community Center of Metropolitan Detroit, the Janice Charach Epstein Gallery and a choreography award from the Foundation for Jewish Culture, among many others.
