square-TruckDances-600pxHOUSTON, TX, September 18, 2015. Dance Source Houston’s annual fundraiser, Truck Dances, returns on November 12, 2014 from 7:30-9:30pm, featuring Urban Souls Dance Company. The unique event at Dance Source Houston’s facility, The Barn, will feature music, food, drink, and three performances of Truck Dances. Harrison Guy, Artistic Director of Urban Souls Dance Company has been commissioned to create a new work using two box trucks as his stage. Guests will also be able to meet Dance Source’s Artists in Residence and get a behind the scenes view of their choreographic process.

“I’m excited to see what Urban Souls creates for the trucks. Last year’s event was so fun, I’m really looking forward to doing it again” says Executive Director Stephanie Todd Wong. “And I’m excited for audience members to see the many ways The Barn is able to support dance artists and their choreographic process. From the beginning of the rehearsals all the way through the many hours of work necessary for a new piece to be stage ready, we’re here to provide them with an affordable and safe space to take new risks. And I hope attendees at Truck Dances will get a glimpse into that process and be as intrigued as I am.”

Urban Souls Dance Company’s Artistic Director, Harrison Guy, is ready for the challenge, “Truck dances provides me with the type choreographic opportunity that I enjoy the most. The dual irony of physically limiting space with unlimited potential creatively will drive me to create a work that is equally intriguing as the concept. As the 2 boxes frame our narratives, the audience can expect the normal soul stirring experience that Urban Souls is known for creating. What I find to be most challenging about this project will be thinking out of the box while creating inside one.”

Ticket Information: Dance Source Houston’s Truck Dances will take place on Thursday, November 12 from 7:30-9:30pm at The Barn, 2201 Preston St, Houston, TX 77003.
