HOUSTON, TX, August 1, 2014. Dance Source Houston (DSH) is delighted to announce an exciting new line up of programs geared to support small to mid-sized dance organizations and individual dance artists.  For the 2014-2015 performance season, Dance Source is proud to offer a new artist-in-residence program, technical/production mini-grants and the Barnstorm Dance Fest, a multi-week, showcase style dance festival.   “We’re so excited, now that the dust has settled from our taking over management of The Barn, to be able to leverage the space and provide programming that our community so desperately needs.  We can’t wait to see how the artists in our community make use of these new opportunities,” explains Dance Source Houston Executive Director, Stephanie Todd Wong.

Details about each program:

Artist-in-Residence:  The artist-in-residence program will be geared toward emerging dance artists and will help guide them through the process of self-production, from start to finish.  It will include a space grant, to be used to develop new work, as well as marketing, fundraising and production guidance from experts in our field.  The residency will culminate with performances of the work created as part of the Barnstorm Dance Fest.  Applications and guidelines for the residency program will be available by August 15, 2014 at dancesourcehouston.org.  Deadline for submission is September 15, 2014.

Production/Technical Mini Grants:  The Production/Technical Mini Grant program is designed to provide individual dance artists and dance organizations with funds in small amounts to help offset the cost of self producing and create an opportunity try something new that has been previously unattainable due to funding restraints.  Available in $500-$750 amounts, the grants may be used to help pay for technical elements related to the production of a dance performance.  Some areas where the grants could be used are lighting elements/design, stage management, costume design/creation, set design/creation, venue rental etc.  Guidelines and applications for the Mini Grant program will be available by October 1, 2014.

Barnstorm Dance Fest:  The Barnstorm Dance Fest, multi-week, showcase style dance festival, will take place in June 2015 and will highlight the breadth and quality of contemporary dance in Houston.  Taking place over multiple weekends, it will provide artists with an opportunity to present new work, without the burden of producing a full performance themselves.  And it will provide Houston’s dance audiences with an opportunity to discover new artists to love.   Applications for the Barnstorm Dance Fest will be available by November 1, 2014.
