A Concert Tribute honoring LuAnne Carter
The High School for Performing and Visual Arts (HSPVA) Dance Department presents HSPVA – A Day in the Life… A Concert Tribute honoring LuAnne Carter on Thursday, March 10th, 7:00 p.m. and Friday, March 11th, 7:00 p.m. The HSPVA Concert Dancers, along with faculty, alumni and artists from the Houston arts community, will honor LuAnne Carter, former Dance Chair of the HSPVA Dance Department. Directed by Paula Sloan, the concert will feature contemporary dance works choreographed by Carter, as well as guest choreographed works by Mary Martha Lappe, the founding HSPVA Dance Chair, Jane Weiner, artistic director of Hope Stone, and HSPVA dance graduates Vincent Sandoval and Mario Zambrano. The concert will also feature live music by the Houston Boy Choir, under the direction of Carole Nelson, and the HSPVA String and Jazz ensembles. This entire evening of dance will honor Carter’s 37 years of service to HSPVA and to dance education.
The HSPVA Concert Dancers, currently under the direction of Janie Carothers, have appeared on numerous university campuses and have toured the United States, England, Scotland and China, performing a diverse repertory from regionally and nationally recognized choreographers. The company has appeared locally in concert halls, national conventions, trade shows, and is currently performing on the Young Audiences of Houston roster. Ann Richards, Former Governor for the State of Texas says, “The arts remain one of our State’s most diverse and exciting assets, and HSPVA has been an important contributor to excellence in art education and performance since its inception.”
