Suchu Dance Presents The Normal Corporation

Suchu Dance Presents The Normal CorporationSuchu Dance Company presents the premiere of The Normal Corporation at their new performance space at 3480 Ella Blvd. on June 20, 21, 23, 27, 28 at 8pm.

The Normal Corporation is a dance work inspired by the Normcore trend, Normcore-depending on who you ask- is “the notion of dressing in an utterly conventional, nondescript way” (Vogue UK) or “self-aware stylized blandness” (nymag.com) or “a made up word for dressing (on purpose) like you don’t care about your appearance in order to look like ‘normal people’ ” (GQ).

The jury is still out whether or not Normcore is just a big joke hipsters are playing on the rest of us. Should so-called “normal people” be insulted by this fashion trend?

So the question arises what is normal? What is Normcore dance? What is Normcore music? The music for The Normal Corporation is hold music. Did you know there exists a 10 hour – no that’s not a typo- loop of “The Girl From Ipanema”?

In conjunction with the premiere of The Normal Corporation Suchu Dance is publishing its inaugural edition of our print journal, PAJAMA. This first edition is a satire on Normcore, an Anthropologie-esque catalog but with Normcore clothes and locations. The kicker? The ordinary clothing and items in the catalog are actually for sale (Yes we will sell them to you!) and since this is satire they are for sale at haute couture prices.

With performing artists Somya Gupta, Anastasiya Kopteva, Sarah Leung, Lena Silva, Jessica Stewart and Prudence Sun.

Choreography by Jennifer Wood.
