Dance Source Houston Presents Mind The Gap 34

HOUSTON, TX February 18, 2025 – Dance Source Houston (DSH) will present the 34th edition of Mind The Gap on Tuesday, March 18 at 7:30pm at Midtown Arts & Theater Center Houston (MATCH), continuing the organization’s 20th anniversary season. This program will feature works by local choreographers Brittany Bass, Dolly Goyal (Steps for Dancing), Ashley Horn (Pilot Dance Project), Savannah Ijames, Shanesha and Tranesha Seals (Double Vision Dance), and Patricia Solorzano.

will all premiere new works. Following the performance, audience members are invited to attend an onstage reception with fellow patrons and program artists.

Tickets to the performance are available now at matchouston.org on a pay-what-you-can sliding scale for both in-person and livestream viewing, starting at $15, with all choreographers receiving a percentage of total ticket sales. 

Launched in 2017, Mind The Gap has provided a performance platform to more than 135 independent choreographers and small dance companies in our community, helping artists navigate the space between creating and presenting new work. Through a partnership with MATCH, the program assists dance artists with valuable production, audience development, and administrative support.

Brittany Nicole Bass holds a Bachelor’s degree in dance from the University of Houston. She serves as a Teaching Artist in Houston Ballet’s Education and Community Engagement Department and is part of the faculty at Houston MET Dance. She is an artist in the MET’s Creative Incubation Residency program. Additionally, Brittany acts as the Program Manager for Dance Source Houston and has been a Karen Stokes Dance Company member since the Spring of 2014. Several Houston performances have showcased her choreographed works, including Fall Extravadance, Barnstorm Dance Fest, Choreographer X6 at ERJCC, Houston’s Fringe Festival, and Mind The Gap.


Dolly Goyal is the founder of Steps for Dancing. A Kathak dancer & a teacher who has been leading the way from 2018 in Houston to cater the requirements of classical dance students for Kathak. Her main objective is to build a love for dancing in anyone, to give anyone the confidence and professional guidance to express and enjoy dancing for both classical and non-classical dance forms like Indian folk dances. Her dance journey with esteemed love for dance began from her childhood at the age of 3 in India, traveled to Singapore, and now serves in Houston. Dolly Goyal is currently pursuing her passion of love through teaching in various parts of Houston and in neighboring cities. She is involved in continuous learning from legends of Kathak for self-growth and innovative ideas. Savannah Ijames is a choreographer, teacher, and performer. She is in her second year of the graduate program at Sam Houston State University and graduated from The University of Southern Mississippi in 2021 with a BFA in dance education. While at Southern Miss, she had the opportunity to perform in faculty pieces by Stacy Reischman Fletcher, Kelly Lester, Candice Salyers, and Lauren Soutullo. She also performed in pieces invited to the American College Dance Association Southern Region and the North Alabama Dance Festival. After graduating with her BFA, she taught in Durham Public Schools for two years, where she was the director of the dance department. As Director, she choreographed nine shows, started the National Dance Honors Society with NDEO, and started a dance team. 


Shanesha and Tranesha Seals are certified teachers holding a Bachelors of Science in Dance from Lamar University with 13 years of teaching experience and 20 years of performing and choreographing experience. They have performed around Texas, Louisiana, Washington D.C, Las Vegas, North Carolina and so many more. From award shows to community events. Attending ACDFA (American College Dance Festival), also multiple summer intensive programs and workshops where they studied more on the Horton, Graham technique as well as ballet, jazz, lyrical, contemporary and Hip Hop. 


Paty Lorena Solórzano (b. Morelia, MX), is a bi-national choreographer, dancer, teacher, and current Artist In Residence with Dance Source Houston. Her choreographies have been presented nationally and internationally in Mexico, USA, Italy, Spain, Israel/Palestine, and Costa Rica. She has been Artist-In-Residence at Atlantic Center for the Arts, Florida Dance Festival, Guapamácataro Center for Arts & Ecology, Centro Mexicano de Musica y las Artes Sonoras, and she was Diverse Intelligences Summer Institute Storyteller Fellow at St. Andrews University, Scotland. Her work has been supported by a National Endowment for Culture and the Arts Mexico grant and PECDA Puebla Mexico grant. A 2018 fellow of the National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures Leadership Institute (NALAC), she received her BFA from Texas Christian University and MFA from the University of Michigan. girasoladances.com


The Pilot Dance Project:

Adam Castan͂eda is a dancer, choreographer, and arts administrator living in Houston, Texas. He is the Executive and Artistic Director of the Pilot Dance Project, a non-profit arts organization that produces the annual Houston Fringe Festival, the Texas Latino/a/x Contemporary Dance Festival, Queer Fringe Houston, as well as a full season of professional Modern dance works. As a company member of the Pilot Dance Project, he has performed in repertory and evening-length work by Ashley Horn, jhon r. stronks, Jennifer Mabus, Lori Yuill, Orlando Hunter (Brooklyn, New York), Erica Gionfriddo (Austin), and Corian Elisor (Atlanta), among others.

Ashley Horn is a dancer, choreographer, filmmaker, costume designer, and artist from the Houston area. She has shown choreography and films at ACFD, The University of Houston, Big Range Dance Festival, The Texas Weekend of Contemporary Dance, Third Coast Dance on Film Festival, The Houston Fringe Festival, and Dance Month at the ERJCC among other venues and events. She has created costumes for FrenetiCore, Frame Dance Productions, Sol Y Luna Dance, and her own works. Ashley is the co-founder and curator of Motion Captured: An Evening of Dance on Film at the ERJCC as a part of Dance Month. In 2012, Ashley was a recipient of an individual artist grant from the Houston Arts Alliance to create an evening-length dance film, Wanderland. Ashley was named one of the 100 Creatives of 2013 by the Houston Press.
