Frame Dance Premieres METRO DANCES with Composer Charles Halka

Houston, TX—Frame Dance premieres METRO DANCES on November 8 at 4pm, for a stage in motion: the METRORail. METRO DANCES will begin at the Hermann Park/Rice U METRORail Station and finish at the Preston stop with a final performance in Market Square. Audiences are invited to ride the rail with the dancers and musicians to see this performance on and off the light rail. METRO DANCES will feature a new work for percussion by Charles Halka.

Frame Dance Productions is a Houston-based contemporary dance company founded by Lydia Hance in 2010 out of a desire to connect dance with technology and to facilitate collaboration among diverse artists. Frame Dance has quickly become a fresh and energetic presence through internationally screened dance films and responsive, intimate performances in exciting and unconventional spaces like art galleries, ferry boats, dance festivals, warehouses, claw foot bathtubs, downtown buildings, and City Hall. The Framers include 8 nationally acclaimed dancers, cutting-edge collaborations with painters, photographers, playwrights, poets, chefs, community members, and emerging and established composers. Frame Dance Productions is committed to working with 100% new music by living composers.
Charles Halka writes acoustic and electronic music for concert, dance, and opera. His works, which draw on a diverse range of musical styles and are often inspired by language, visual imagery, and movement, have been performed in North America, Europe, and Hong Kong, including performances by counter)induction, Volti, and theMexican National Symphony Orchestra and at such venues as the ISCM World Music Days, the Palacio de Bellas Artes, and the Coolidge Auditorium of the Library of Congress. This performance will be his third time collaborating with Frame Dance.
