HOUSTON, TX – The Brazilian Arts Foundation (www.BrazilianArts.org) hosts the 2013 Houston Brazilian Festival on Saturday, Sept. 7, at Jones Plaza in downtown Houston from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. This annual event occurs around Brazil’s Independence Day (September 7) and draws more than 3,000 attendees each year, bringing visitors from around the world together for performances, live music and food.
The festival is family-friendly and features educational booths, games and interactive demonstrations for people of all ages. Sponsored by City of Houston through grants of Houston Arts Alliance, Consulate General of Brazil, Bud Light, Central Market, Tucanos Brazilian Grill and HoustonPress as a media partner, the festival is an opportunity for local residents and visitors to experience the richness of Brazil in a setting that highlights the cultural diversity of Houston.
Houston Brazilian Festival will feature musical performances by bands from Brazil, Trio Baru and Eta Carinae sponsored by Brazil’s Ministry of Culture, as well as local bands, Samba Soul and Bombrasil, Silva Dance Company, Capoeira Luanda Houston and Batalá.
Brazil, as the fifth-largest country in the world, boasts a rich history and vibrant cultural influences. Festival education centers invite visitors to explore Brazil’s different regions and their unique social and economic contributions.
