UH Goes To The Barn
Houston,Texas – University Dance Theatre presents UH Goes to The Barnon February 26, 2014 at 7:30 p.m at The Barn Theatre, 2201 Preston. UH Goes to the Barn is choreographed, produced, and performed by the University of Houston School of Theatre & Dance students. Student choreographers have the opportunity to display their work in a professional setting while simultaneously learning the aspects of Production, Box Office, and Marketing. Many of these budding artists go on to produce and perform professionally; UH Goes to the Barn premieres works from today’s rising artists and performers.
Student choreographer Lauren Burke pushes her creativity to its limits by presenting two pieces, In Light of Gravity and Wash. In Light of Gravity is inspired by the idea of individuals who offer one another support to overcome personal opposition. Wash exposes an obsessive desire to be clean and the internal conflict of what it means to let ones guard down. Burke uses a cloak in Wash to symbolize a hiding place and a safe zone.
Bryan Peck invites the audience into an intimate relationship of forces in his work, Contraffinity. This duet symbolizes how the opposite nature of yin and yang coexist harmoniously through contrasting dynamics and partnering. The soft and vulnerable melody of Bill Ryan’s Zinc, performed by Grand Valley State University New Music Ensemble, blends in harmony with the dancers moments of great strength.
