Vault Presents Colluvia
Houston, TX: What is better than one woman? Four ladies and a harness.
Amy Ell, Jacquelyne Boe, Candace Ratliff, and Toni Valle present Colluvia, an evening of premier and restaged works, on November 13 & 14, 2015, at 7:30pm at Vault Houston.
What is Colluvia? The coming together of unrelated material through the pull of gravity. Each woman comes to the showcase from various paths with different reasons for wanting to show work. These four do not have anything artistically in common, yet feel the “pull” of presenting work – some new, some restaged. Vault Houston provides a perfect venue for this type of collaboration – a mix of works both in the air and on the ground. “It was time,” remarks Ell, “Time to move, time to get the creative juices flowing. My life is busy – between aerial training, performances, and being the owner of Vault Houston, there is not much room for my own personal work. Setting a deadline helps me make time to focus on my own choreography.” Ell is presenting two excerpts from ‘Torn’, which premiered in 2011 at DiverseWorks, showcasing harness work. She is also premiering two additional pieces, thus the eventual birth of two separate works.
Jacquelyne Boe is presenting her signature solo, Dream Catcher. The solo, which incorporates original music with her choreography, is a Houston premiere. “I’m excited for the opportunity to present this work to Houston. Many of my friends have wanted to see this work and now I have the chance to show Dream Catcher to a new audience,” comments Boe.
Candace Ratliff is premiering “Washed,” a work-in-progress duet that will remain a surprise to audiences until opening night.
Toni Valle is showing works from her upcoming show, Cracked, which originally premiered in 2006. Focusing on the messages women receive on sex and body image, Cracked shows the consequences of a lifetime of using yourself as a bartering tool. Valle is restaging the work with quite a few changes -two of these new vignettes will be premiering in Colluvia. “10 years have passed since I first presented Cracked to sold out houses. The stories still resonate with me, but I’m older now and I have a different perspective on those stories,” Valle comments, “I also have a wider bank of choreographic skill – I’ve been aerial training for years, but this is the first time I’ve brought it into my own choreography. I have a male dancer that repeatedly crawls on my back. I can no longer carry a man on my back – so a harness was a viable solution.”VauLt premieres Colluvia on November 13 & 14, 2015, at 7:30pm, at VauLt Houston, 1824 Spring Street #124, Houston, TX 77007. Tickets are $20 general admission, $15 Student/Seniors. For more information, call 713/409-2838 or visit www.vaulthouston.com.
