3… 2… 1… Aimed Dance Launches Summer Fest 2023
Beaumont, Texas – Aimed Dance is thrilled to announce Summer Fest 2023 – 3 Weekends of Concerts, 2 Weeks of Classes, 1 Summer Dance Festival – to be held July 10 – 29 on the Lamar University campus.
Aimed Dance, a 501(c)3 performing arts organization, seeks to foster an awareness of and value for dance as a fine art through live performances, educational programming, and professional networking. “Summer Fest 2023 allows us the opportunity to maximize our mission-based programming in a summer celebration of contemporary dance,” explains artistic director, Amy Elizabeth.
The Concert Series launches on Friday, July 14 at 6:30 pm with the Festival Opening Party including the first round of ArTalks on the Lawn. ArTalks on the Lawn allow the audience a backstage pass to the creative process and the artists behind the work. ArTalks (6:30 pm) and performances (7:30 pm) will take place every Friday and Saturday evening of the festival. Festival Concert 1: July 14 – 15, Festival Concert 2: July 21 – 22, Festival Concert 3: July 28 – 29 will feature premieres by the Emerging Choreographer Fellows and special guest choreographers, the choreography and performance festival participants, and curated special guest works. The festival will end with a final Closing Reception immediately following the performance on Saturday, July 29. All performances will be held in the Lamar University Studio Theatre.
Committed to offering movement, theory, and design classes that will take the movement artists to the next level, ADSF 23 offers three laboratory style tracks: choreography, performance, and technology. “ADSF is not your average dance intensive. Dancers will begin each day engaging in movement classes in modern, contemporary, improvisation, partnering, ballet, jazz, and more and then move into breakout sessions for a more intimate investigation in the specific areas in the afternoons,” explains Jennifer Salter, ADSF instructor. Dancers ages 9+ may choose to participate in Week 1: July 10 – 15, Week 2: July 17 – 22, or both. Artists enrolled in the performance and choreography labs will take the stage with Aimed Dance and special guests in the weekend Festival Concerts.
Community Classes are open on July 14, 15, 21, and 22 from 9am – 1pm for dancers 9+ to experience the festival without the weekly commitment. Classes will be taught by visiting guest instructors participating in the weekend Festival Concert.
If you are a dancer, were a dancer in the past, or just enjoy seeing live performance art, Aimed Dance invites you to join us for any or all parts of this incredible celebration of dance in SETX.
