Urbanity marks SonKiss’d Dance Theater’s first concert since its historic Moving Mountains production last December, a first-of-its-kind performance that transformed Texas Rock Gym into a stage for rock climbing choreography and aerial silk work by guest artist Fenyx Aerial. SonKiss’d Dance Theater’s new show will be an inspirational urban narrative about the power of breakthrough.

“What has drawn me to SonKiss’d is Chris’ ability to bring different dance styles and creative mediums together into one seamless product,” says FrenetiCore’s Executive Director Adam Castaneda. “He also consistently produces high-caliber dance narratives that are resonant with large audiences. He’s also not afraid to use unconventional spaces, so his vision was a natural fit for Frenetic Theater’s Artist-in-Residency Program.

SonKiss’d Dance Theater was founded in January 2012 with the mission to minister to all through visual and performing arts. Director Chris “YungChris” Thomas built his company around the idea of creating dance experiences so powerful that the audience would leave completely transformed and inspired. Since 2012, the company has performed at the Dance Houston Festival, Barnstorm Dance Fest, and has presented full-length dance works at venues throughout Houston and beyond. Most recently, the company presented at APAP 2016 in New York City, and completed a five-month performance project at Texas Rock Gym, Moving Mountains. Chris Thomas is the recipient of a 2014 Houston Arts Alliance Independent Artist Grant.
