Houston’s collaborative dance and live music performance company Group Acorde, performs two nights at Archway Gallery during PrintHouston 2022
Houston, TX, May 18th, 2022-Group Acorde’s signature collaborative work between contemporary dance and experimental live music will fill the Archway Gallery space and its art with live and original music and dance drawing from classical to avant-garde. The performers will push themselves to create movements that reflect the shapes, sounds and space on site as well as a sound score that invites audience members to experience dance, music and visual art in a different perspective. These performances are happening during PrintHouston, a biennial celebration of original prints, the artists who create them, and the people who collect them. This is a city wide celebration with events & shows in many galleries. Archway Gallery is one of the galleries involved, and Group Acorde couldn’t be more thrilled to create and share its collaborations during such an important event in Houston! The company invites all to come have a glass of wine, watch a live performance and see the wonderful art works in the gallery! Group Acorde came to life with the desire of Roberta Paixao Cortes, Thomas Helton, Lindsey McGill and Seth Paynter to be a group that truly collaborates in all aspects of the creation process. These four artists have been creating and performing in the Houston arts scene for many years and decided to come together with the intention to produce high quality work combining experimental music and contemporary dance choreography, where all artists conceptualize the works from beginning to end. Group Acorde is funded in part by Dance Source Houston Groundwork Grant 2022.
Group Acorde has performed at Barnstorm Dance Fest, Dance Month at the Kaplan Theater, East Meets West, Contemporary World Festival, 16th Annual Celebration of Dance, Fringe Festival, The First Latino(a) Texas Contemporary Dance Festival, and the Theorist Fest; collaborated with Israeli choreographer Anat Grigorio, Texas choreographer Jennifer Mabus, Brazilian visual artist Andre Amaral, Texas composer and musician Andrew Leinhard, and New York based photographer Christopher Peddecord. The company has produced three evening length original evenings of work, including recognition by the Houston Chronicle as “best collaboration” for Origins in 2019. Since its inception, the company has received support from Dance Source Houston, The City of Houston through Houston Arts Alliance, Anna B Mccullough, Community Foundation of Southern Massachusetts Dean Slocum and Kerry Lynch Foundation, the Israeli Consulate in Houston and individual donors.
Group Acorde’s mission is to cultivate and educate diverse audiences through live, thought-provoking, original and affordable performance collaborations between contemporary dance and experimental music. The company broadens its reach through community partnerships that aim to include and engage people from all walks of life through education, dialogue and accessibility.
