MORE ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE:
Hope Stone Dance Company’s Artistic Director Jane Weiner draws inspiration for say please and thank you from cherished authors including Shel Silverstein, Maurice Sendak, Beverly Cleary, Margaret Wise Brown, and the Brothers Grimm. Working with local spoken word poet Outspoken Bean, Weiner will craft a new children’s story, Wanda McKinney and Her Glorious Amazing Art Adventure. Local poetry slam artist Mahnoor Samana will tell the story as accompaniment to the dance during the first part of the performance. The latter part of say please and thank you will feature a condensed version of Jane Weiner’s squared dancer, originally performed in November 2012. This reprisal will again feature live music accompaniment by musician and composer To All My Dear Friends/Marc Hennessey.
In addition to the performance listed above, Hope Stone Dance Company will perform say please and thank you twice daily February 26-28 as part of the Discovery Series at The Hobby Center. The series, generously supported by Uniquely Houston, brings regional schoolchildren to The Hobby Center for exciting, free performances. Hope Stone Dance Company will also travel to South Texas to perform say please and thank you for schoolchildren of Brownsville and Port Isabel. say please and thank you aims to avoid “speaking down” to children, but rather to encourage them to explore their own interpretations of dance/theatre through a thoughtful art experience. Hope Stone, Inc. has launched a crowd funding campaign on power2give.org to raise funds to bring say please and thank you to over 3500 children at the Hobby and in Brownsville.
