HOUSTON (July 19, 2022) – The Pilot Dance Project, under the artistic direction of Adam Castan͂eda, will embark on a three-city tour at the invitation of the Oklahoma Contemporary Dance Festival, the Kansas City Fringe Festival, and the Minnesota Fringe Festival. This marks the first time that The Pilot Dance Project will be touring its repertoire outside the state of Texas. On July 22 and 23, the company will perform Adam Castan͂eda’s “Yourself. Let the tether break through …” at the Mustang Performing Arts Center as part of the Oklahoma Contemporary Dance Festival. The piece was originally created for Ashley Horn’s evening-length work, Tether, which premiered in April 2021. Choreographed during a moment in time that saw the country’s fourth-largest city populated by masked faces, the dance is a reminder to honor the humanity of one’s fellow man. Reworked for the proscenium stage, this iteration includes new costumes by designer Ashley Horn.

From July 26 – July 30, the company will perform Aureate, a new forty-five minute dance work at the Todd Bolender Center for Dance & Creativity for the Kansas City Fringe Festival. Aureate is a co-creation by Adam Castan͂eda and Ashley Horn. Built from concepts that originated in 2017, Aureate explores the ceremonies and rituals that sculpt the human experience. The choreographic prompts were created in 2017, with new movement and ideas added over the past summer. The choreography has evolved to reflect the concerns and reflections of life during a global pandemic.

From August 4  – 13, the company will perform Aureate in the Augsburg Studio in Minneapolis as part of the Minnesota Fringe Festival. Also included in Aureate is Ashley Horn’s beloved Skirt Dance, featuring innovative sculptures-as-costumes that the dancers manipulate across the stage as the dance progresses.

“The company has built such a wonderful rep over the years, and I’m excited to show some of our work outside of our hometown,” says The Pilot Dance Project Artistic Director Adam Castan͂eda.  “Our company also runs the Houston Fringe Festival, so as members of the United States Association of Fringe Festivals, it’s nice to finally be able to be producers on the Fringe circuit. These pieces are special the company, and reflect our desire to put accessible, human-inspired dance works into the world.”

The Pilot Dance Project’s Houston audience will be able to see Aureate as part of the Houston Fringe Festival in November 2022.
