Houston, Texas-
University of Houston School of Theatre & Dance presents Emerging Choreographers Showcase on December 6, 2013 at 12 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and December 7, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. in the Quintero Lab Theatre at the CWM Center for the Arts. Emerging Choreographers Showcase is a debut of dance works choreographed, produced, and performed by the University of Houston School of Theatre & Dance students. This fall event is an avenue for aspiring artists to produce all technical and artistic aspects of a concert in a professional environment.Emerging Choreographers Showcase presents the talent of today and the visionaries of the future. Student choreographer, Lauren Burke, gets inspiration from the courage individual’s gain in the midst of opposition. “We all face adversity in life, and no matter the obstacle, we have the choice to give up or press forward,” she says, “Even when the next step is unclear, the relentless audacity to trust becomes inevitable.” Burke’s work displays risky partnering and lifts to demonstrate the individual’s desire to abandon all odds and journey into the unknown.Sarah Cross gets personal as she tells the story of the evolving relationship between herself and her grandmother. The relationship is characterized by dependency and the role reversal that occurs after her grandmother goes through a tragic incident. Cross’s choreography reveals a touching transformation of life and relationships.Choreographer Anasheh Partai is inspired by the subtle interactions between people. “All our lives are intertwined; we influence one another’s outcomes just by living,” says Partai. She creates a rippling storyline of how individuals affect one another’s paths through random occurrences, and how these chance encounters leave each with a piece of the other.
