Dance Month at the Kaplan Theatre presents Los Angeles-based Ate9 dANCEcOMPANY in residence February 3rd – 8th at the Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center. During this week, Danielle Agami, the artistic director, and the company, will be introducing themselves to the community through a series of site-specific work, master classes, lecture/demonstrations and performances.

Ate9 has built a reputation for investing and caring about the individual, training to a point beyond technique. Artistic Director, Danielle Agami, chosen as one of the 25 dancers to watch in 2015 by Dance Magazine, creates a range of work that explores the juxtaposition of subtlety and extreme physicality to find what is honest and human.

Bringing dance closer to audiences and highlighting the intimacy in unconventional spaces has been an integral part of Danielle Agami’s development as an artist. “Exhibit O”, a site-specific work in cooperation with Laura Rathe Fine Art at 2707 Colquitt Street will be presented on Tuesday, February 3 at 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM. Agami was commissioned by city Arts Festival in Seattle, Washington to create a new piece for a gallery space. Through this commission, Agami created “Exhibit O”. This is a free event.
Danielle Agami, born in Israel, is a renowned Gaga teacher. As a member of the Batsheva Dance Company, she served as the Artistic director of Batsheva Dancers Create and was the company’s rehearsal director. After eight years with Batsheva, Agami relocated to New York City to function as Senior Manager of Gaga U.S.A. Danielle will teach a Gaga Master Class on Wednesday, February 4 at 7:30 – 9:00 PM for intermediate/advanced level dancers for high-school age and older at the J. The fee is $15.
Historian Rebecca Rossen and Danielle Agami team up to consider the contributions of Jewish choreographers to contemporary dance. Making An Impact: Jewish Choreographers and Contemporary Dance , a free lecture/demonstration will be presented Thursday, February 5 at 7:30 PM in the J’s Kaplan Theatre.   Rebecca Rossen is an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at Austin in the Department of Theater and Dance. She is the author of Dancing Jewish: Jewish Identity in American Modern and Postmodern Dance (Oxford University Press, 2014)
World renowned Dancer/Choreographer Danielle Agami and Ate9 dANCEcOMPANY presents “mouth to mouth”, a wildly entertaining and mesmerizing dance performance. “mouth to mouth” is a performance about human exchange, a social experiment in the comfort of intimacy, the need to communicate, and deep-seated desire to connect. The piece was chosen by Wendy Perron, a freelance writer, as one of the top five pieces in 2014. The eight-member dance ensemble is a collection of award-winning dancers from North America, hand-picked by Agami for their versatility, individual flair and technical finesse in the Gaga movement language.
