BOOT Dance Project Announces the Return of Break-In Dance Fest August 6–7, 2026 at The MATCH (Midtown Arts & Theater Center Houston)

HOUSTON, TX — {January 22, 2026} — BOOT Dance Project announces the return of Break-In Dance Fest, a two-night dance festival spotlighting Texas-based choreographers. The festival will take place August 6 & 7, 2026, at The MATCH (Midtown Arts & Theater Center Houston).

Break-In Dance Fest was created to provide choreographers with a professional, supportive environment to develop and present work while building meaningful connections across the Texas dance community. The festival prioritizes accessibility by offering paid performance opportunities, professional production support, and no application fees.

“Break-In was one of the first festivals I’ve participated in that felt truly open to current contemporary movement,” said Isabella Mireles Vik, Artistic Director of Aufheben. “I admire the earnestness and genuine support shown to all of the artists involved.”

Now expanding to two nights of performance, Break-In Dance Fest continues to grow while maintaining a curated, artist-centered experience. Choreographers from across Texas are brought together to share work with engaged audiences and fellow artists in an environment that values experimentation, risk-taking, and contemporary voices.

“Break-In Dance Fest was an incredible opportunity for networking creative artists,” said Madison Kotch, University of Arizona School of Dance graduate and Graham 2 Company member. “I was inspired by the choreographers, the concepts, and the overall environment. It helped me grow professionally while feeling supported as a Texas-based artist.”

Beyond performance, Break-In Dance Fest emphasizes intentional community building through artist conversations, classes, and post-show engagement.

“Break-In created meaningful connections between dancers and choreographers beyond the stage,” said Drew Phipps. “By creating opportunities for dialogue and connection, the festival strengthens the entire Texas dance community.”

Applications for Break-In Dance Fest open February 20 and are open to choreographers currently living and working in Texas. Selected artists receive production support, professional photography and videography, and inclusion in festival-wide promotion and outreach.

In addition to the performance platform, selected choreographers may be invited to participate in teaching and engagement opportunities as part of BOOT Camp, BOOT Dance Project’s summer educational program, taking place July 31–August 2, 2026. These opportunities allow artists to share their practice while expanding their reach to the pre-professional dance community.
