HOUSTON, TX August 18, 2025 – Dance Source Houston (DSH) will present the 37th edition of Mind The Gap on Tuesday, October 7 at 7:30pm at Midtown Arts & Theater Center Houston (MATCH). This showcase will feature local dancemakers Madeline Isch, Amanda Monteith, Prerna Shrivathsan, Giuliana Velez-Turner, and Isabel Villegas. The program of solo and ensemble works will include choreography informed by a range of movement styles – Bharathanatyam, contemporary, fusion, Kathak, modern, and Tai Chi. Following the performance, audience members are invited to attend an onstage reception with fellow patrons and program artists.
Tickets to the performance are available now at matchouston.org on a pay-what-you-can sliding scale for both in-person and livestream viewing, starting at $15, with all choreographers receiving a percentage of total ticket sales.
Launched in 2017, Mind The Gap has provided a performance platform to more than 150 independent choreographers and small dance companies in our community, helping artists navigate the space between creating and presenting new work. Through a partnership with MATCH, the program assists dance artists with valuable production, audience development, and administrative support.

Madeline Isch has been dancing for 15 years and is experienced in many types of movement. Her dance journey started at Amanda’s Dance Express, where she danced competitively til the age of 11. She then moved on to join the Momentum Dance competition team to continue her training. Isch also attended Grand Prairie Fine Arts Academy from 6th to 12th grade, where she performed in many dance concerts and musicals before graduating in 2022. She is now working towards her BFA in Dance with a minor in Psychology at Sam Houston State University.

Amanda Monteith currently lives and works between Houston, Texas and London, England, where she has been pursuing her Masters of Arts at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. Even through this, she has been an active member of both the Houston and London dance communities and looks forward to sharing her knowledge back in the States and beyond. Her passion for dancing and performing has only grown and blazed brighter, having performed with notable choreographers such as Bethany Logan, Sung Im Her, Kasia Witek, and Kayla Collymore. Her dancing has been featured in several productions including Her Brown Body is Glory, a capstone show for Arizona choreographer Hannah Victoria, Heather Waldon’s original work 18:30, and within the structure of Garage 713 Studios and performance team. Additionally, Amanda has self-produced her most recent work, BRUTE: a two part dance work featuring live performance and film exploring brutalist concepts within a movement context.

Prerna Shrivathsan is a Bharathanatyam artist based in Houston,Texas. She started her journey at the tender age of 6 under the tutelage of Smt. Sindhu Shyam (Kalaasindhu School of Performing Arts, Chennai), and completed her Arangetram on August 6, 2022 in Chennai. After her Arangetram, she is also under the tutelage of Dr. Surabi Veeraragavan (Shree Natyalaya, Houston). She brings a vibrant presence to the stage, blending strength and grace in her Nritta, and conveying deep emotion through her expressive Abhinaya. Rooted in bhakti, her performances carry a quiet intensity that resonates with audiences. Though primarily a solo artist, she finds equal joy in collaborating with others and being part of group productions, where shared creativity enriches the experience. Prerna was awarded the 2nd prize in the Junior Varnam Category at the Cleveland Thyagaraja Aradhana in 2025. She is a junior at the University of Houston, majoring in Mathematics.

Giuliana Velez is a movement artist, choreographer, and DJ based in Houston, Texas. She earned her BFA in Dance from the University of Texas at Austin and currently serves as a resident artist at Project Row Houses. Giuliana’s movement practice is rooted in versatility, curiosity, and cultural preservation- spanning street, contemporary, hip hop, Latin, and modern dance vocabularies. Giuliana’s choreographic work often incorporates collaboration, improvisation, and storytelling across live performance and digital platforms. Her recent works have been presented at the Cohen New Works Festival (2025) and the American College Dance Association (2023). As her practice continues to evolve, she remains dedicated to challenging traditional hierarchies in dance and cultivating spaces where underrepresented forms thrive and transform the stage.

Collaborator: Megan Davidson (she/her) is a dynamic dancer and choreographer based in Austin, Texas. She is a recent graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, where she earned a BFA in Dance and a Minor in African and African Diaspora Studies. With a strong foundation in contemporary, ballet, and commercial jazz, Megan also brings valuable experience in performance theatre. Passionate about creating and performing in spaces that foster freedom of expression and meaningful storytelling, Megan is drawn to work that engages and uplifts diverse voices. Her recent performance credits include Where to Go From Here—her original work featured in Cyphers (2024)—and Black Angel by Gesel Mason, presented in Fall For Dance (2023).

Isabel Villegas is a Houston based interdisciplinary artist that discovered her passion for expression through dance. Using the language of dance as her primary medium of expression, Isabel creates a commentary on the prevalent themes of the human experience. Her process includes an exploration of the merging of different mediums to reflect her inner process, experiences, and observations. Born and raised in Houston, Isabel has always been attuned to the ways in which culture, nature, connection come together to create a constant coming of age story that is the human experience. Isabel has a Bachelors of science in psychology with a minor in Human development and family studies from the University of Houston. Feeling deeply called to service and connection, she uses art to accentuate her perspectives and call attention to what humanity needs most, love.

Collaborator: Soren Rivero (he/him) is a Queer, Latinx artist based in Houston, Texas. He received his B.A. in Creative Writing from the University of Houston-Downtown in 2022, and has since been published in multiple literary journals including The Odessa Collective, The Bayou Review, and Public Poetry HABITS. Soren works as a copywriter, performer, Pure Barre instructor and teaches dance at The Delicate Rose School of the Arts and Diva Dance Sugar Land. In 2024, Soren joined the Ad Deum Mentorship Program, Folkoholic Dance Theatre, and The Delicate Rose Dance Productions. In his free time, Soren enjoys working out, yoga, pilates, and playing with his two bunnies, Rice and Curry.
