Frame Dance Productions Presents the Third Annual Mise en Scène Performance Series

Four nights of improvisation, collaboration, and artistic risk-taking return this August

HOUSTON, TX —  This August, Frame Dance Productions will present the third annual Mise en Scène, a highly-conceived choreographic performance series where Houston artists step into the unknown to create something entirely new—live, unscripted, and unrepeatable.

Born from over a decade of creative research between Frame Dance Artistic Director Lydia Hance and longtime collaborator Ashley HornMise en Scène defies traditional performance structure. Over four performances, artists from Houston’s dance, theater, and music communities will come together without shared rehearsals, scripts, or roadmaps.

Instead, performers will arrive with a set of mysterious physical objects mailed to them in advance and respond to an immersive visual art installation. Using these as inspiration, they will build and perform in real time before the audience’s eyes.

Mise en Scène is equal parts structure and spontaneity, play and precision,” says Hance. “It’s the kind of work that can only exist once, then never again in quite the same way. That fleeting magic is what makes it so powerful—for both artists and audiences.”
