HOUSTON, TEXAS – Bold, unflinching, and visually electric, Pressure Point is an audacious evening of dance that showcases five charged works by NobleMotion Dance, premiering August 21–23 at 7:30 PM at the MATCH. This kinetic variety show keeps audiences on their toes with four world premieres and the return of fan favorite KinkyKool Fan Blowing Hard. Highlights include Phantom Reach, a surreal dreamscape created in collaboration with multimedia composer Badie Khaleghian; The Punchline, a razor-sharp political satire that dares to cross ideological lines; Landfall, a sweeping cinematic piece for 18 women; and No-Holds Barred, a muscular, irreverent mash-up of pro wrestling inspired dance. From immersive projection design to high-flying spectacle, Pressure Point is unpredictable and undeniably evocative.
Step inside the fractured psyche of Aaron Stands in Phantom Reach, a surreal exploration of consciousness and control. As Aaron drifts through a fugue state, audiences experience his world from both first- and third-person perspectives, with towering projections of his hands revealing the emotional undercurrents he struggles to suppress. These hands become a visual manifestation of inner conflict, desire, and restraint, exposing the tension between thought and action. Featuring evocative multimedia design and composition by Badie Khaleghian, Phantom Reach immerses audiences in a hauntingly beautiful mindscape.
The Punchline is a boisterous, politically-charged dance that probes the fine lines—both literal and imagined—that divide and define us. Drawing inspiration from the physicality of civic protest and the behavior of citizens in polarized societies, The Punchline exposes the fragility of community when loyalty becomes a weapon. Through bold imagery and emotionally raw movement, the work reflects on the socially constructed cages we build—around ourselves and others—and the cost of crossing the boundaries we’ve come to accept. The Punchline dares audiences to ask: What happens when the lines we draw trap us all? Will we rise, collapse, or redraw them entirely?
In a blood-red gossamer sea, a multitude of women assembles—each a witness to the ceaseless, unrelenting passage of time. In Landfall, their presence pierces the space with quiet urgency, as rose petals descend endlessly from above. The petals fall with an indifference—perhaps even defiance—toward the women’s emotions, as if time itself remains unmoved by human feeling. This classically arranged work by Dionne Sparkman Noble is a meditation on memory, wartime losses, and the passage of time – a living tableau where beauty and inevitability intertwine.
Seven men enter the ring—wrestling mats, gear, and all—in No-Holds Barred, a riotous collision of dance and spectacle. This high-octane romp flips the bombast of pro wrestling on its head, as bodies launch, grapple, and crash with theatrical flair. But beneath the bravado lies something more tender: exaggerated displays of strength slowly peel back to reveal raw emotion and human vulnerability. Choreographic twists and shifts in intention transform body slams into silent confessions, and standoffs into awkward moments of intimacy. At once humorous and stirring, No-Holds Barred dares us to question where performance ends and authenticity begins.
Back by popular demand after ten years, KinkyKool Fan Blowing Hard returns to Houston with all its irreverent energy and explosive charm. Described by critic Theodore Bale as “a brilliant rupture… the kind of piece that smacks you in the face, and you like it,” this audience favorite transforms three industrial fans into engines of chaos and raw momentum. Dancers hurl through space with the swagger of rock stars. The result is a whirlwind of high-octane movement, irreverent energy, and unfiltered joy. KinkyKool Fan Blowing Hard is dance cranked to eleven—bold, loud, and unapologetically fun.
Collaborators include movement artists Dillon Bell, Wesley Cordova, Deontay Gray, Lindsey McGill, Maria Perez, Tyler Orcutt, Jacob Regan, Amy Symonds, Joseph Stevens, Angelica Villa, Andrew Smith, Cole Hinson, composer/multimedia artist Badie Khaleghian, and light designer Bryan Ealey.
