The Bay Area Houston Ballet & Theatre Season Kick-off Reception

Houston, Texas (July 15, 2014).  The Bay Area Houston Ballet & Theatre (BAHBT) is hosting this year’s Season Kick-off unlike any other. This event will mark a METAMORPHASIS into the next chapter in BAHBT history.  The historic unveiling of BAHBT’s future will only be disclosed at the Season Kick-off, along with many other announcements and recognitions

This annual event honors the  new inductees to the BAHBT Volunteer Hall of Fame as well as the BRAVO! AWARD.  This year, The City of Webster will the be the 2014 recipient in recognition of their long standing and very generous support.  The BRAVO! AWARD was created in 2003 to honor those individuals who have greatly furthered our efforts to bring cultural enrichment to our community.

Previous BRAVO! AWARD recipients include Kimberly DeLape (2003), Sheree Frede (2003), Martha Ferebee (2003), Kippy Caraway (2004), The Honorable Councilperson Addie Wiseman (2004),  Jim Reinhartsen (2005),  Dr. Pat Wilson (2006), May Alys Cherry (2007), Pam Culpepper (2008), Bob Mitchell (2009), Matt Wiggins (2010), The Honorable Mike Sullivan (2011), Jill Reason ( 2012 and Ms. Ellen King,  the 2013 recipient.

The reception will also provide an introduction of BAHBT’s  most recent and treasured artistic additions.  World reknown ballet luminaries and frequent guest artists , Ms. Lorna Feijóo and Mr. Nelson Madrigal,  will officially join BAHBT as ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE for the 2014 -2015 season.  Both were principal dancers at the National Ballet of Cuba, under the direction of the famous Alicia Alonso.  They recently joined BAHBT after being at the Boston Ballet since 2003. They have a wide repertoire and are highly acclaimed.

Lorna Feijóo joined the Boston Ballet in 2003 from the Cincinnati Ballet.  She studied at the National Ballet School in Havana and became a principal dancer at the National Ballet of Cuba, under the direction of the famous Alicia Alonso. Ms. Feijóo has performed in several International Ballet Festivals in Havana and on worldwide tours, and has won critical acclaim in leading roles of many classical and contemporary ballets.  She has received numerous awards, including a gold medal at both the Vignali-Danza Contest and the Positano Contest of Young Talents in Italy.  Ms. Feijóo has been invited to dance in the Benoit the la dance (Bolshoi Theater) and participated in two famous American shows, the legendary Sesame Street and popular Dancing with Stars.

Nelson Madrigal trained with Cuba’s National Ballet School, under the direction of the famous Alicia Alonso, and joined the National Ballet of Cuba in 1994 where he was a distinguished primeros bailarines. Madrigal was a principal dancer with Cincinnati Ballet from 2002-2003. He joined Boston Ballet in 2003.  Madrigal was invited to dance in the Benoit the la dance (Bolshoi Theater.  Mr. Madrigal has performed with BAHBT for four seasons and has now relocated from Boston with his wife Lorna Feijóo to become BAHBT’s newest Artist in Residence.

The 2014-2015 Season, Embrace Artistry, includes:  The Sleeping Beauty, October 17 – 19, 2014, The Nutcracker, December 5 – 7 & 12-14, 2014, and the musical Thoroughly Modern Millie, April 24 – 26, 2015.
