HOUSTON, TX, September 16, 2026 – Dance Source Houston (DSH) is pleased to announce the 2026-27 Artist In Residence (AIR) cohort, which includes Persi Mey and Isabelle Mireles Vik. These two Houston-area choreographers will receive ongoing mentorship, artistic and professional development, and a monetary stipend through the 9-month program. Each choreographer will create a new work to be presented in Barnstorm Dance Fest 2027, happening April 21-24 at Midtown Arts & Theater Center Houston, serving as the culmination of their residency term.
“We are thrilled to welcome this year’s cohort of dancemakers and support their creative experimentation and development through the Artists In Residence program,” said DSH Executive Director Mollie Haven Miller. “Both Isabella and Persi have previously presented bold work through DSH’s programs, and we’re excited to work with both of them in this more intensive capacity this season.”
Begun in 2015, this marks the 12th cohort to receive support through the program, which has supported 41 dancemakers to date. Learn more about the 2026-27 Artists In Residence below.
Meet the Artists In Residence
Persi Mey

Persi works at the intersection of dance, design, and performance art, blending forms and ideas to create transformative experiences. Their movement and choreographic style is rooted in grounded athleticism, which draws from their experiences training in varied dance and martial arts practices. Originally from the metro Detroit area, Persi received their BFA in contemporary dance from Indiana University with additional training at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, and was briefly located in Kansas City before finding themself in Houston in 2022. Persi became an artist in residence at the Houston Metropolitan Dance Center in 2023 as a part of their Creative Incubation initiative. Through continued support from the Houston MET they were able to found their company, Riddles Three, in 2024. Since its founding, Persi has premiered two evening-length works on the company as well as shown work at festivals across Texas and the US.
Isabella Mireles Vik

Isabella Mireles Vik is an interdisciplinary artist focusing on movement, choreography, physical performance art and body art. Vik’s work explores themes focused on societal struggles and the human condition, creating dynamic physicality while blending abstract narratives. Vik creates work for galleries, theaters, film and site-specific spaces. Their process is dialectical and conceptual, often influenced by current socio-political conditions and challenging those conditions. Vik has traveled internationally for their research to countries such as Germany, Spain, Mexico, Greece and Austria. Recently, Vik completed the ATLAS Program through Impulstanz in Vienna as a choreographer in residence to expand their research and attend workshops with artists such as Angelique Wilkie, Vasko Nasonov, Damien Jalet and German Jauregui Allue. In 2023, they formed the performance project Aufheben, in which they currently direct and choreograph for Vik’s larger group works. Vik has been the recipient of the Let Creative Happen grant and Support for Individual Artists grant through Houston Arts Alliance.
