Houston’s collaborative dance and live music performance
company Group Acorde celebrates 10th anniversary
presenting Gone at MATCH in November 2026

Houston, TX, September 17th, 2026-Group Acorde presents Gone: an evening that explores the theme of grief, displaying different sides of experiencing it and coping through contemporary dance and live original music. In celebration of Group Acorde’s 10th anniversary season, Gone features past works choreographed by founding members Roberta Paixao Cortes and Lindsey McGill with soundscore by founding member Thomas Helton as well as a world premiere by guest choreographer Andrea Dawn Shelley. “Fear: a work in progress” is the first piece ever created by Group Acorde and highlights three artist’s takes on their own individual fears through choreographed and improvised movement and sound, showcasing how the company started its collaborations and creative processes 10 years ago.“Subject: see attachment” features original music, choreography, and spoken word inspired by shared images, words, and videos emailed by each artist in an attempt to communicate their current relationships, motivations, and what is on their heart over distance. Although the work premiered in 2017, the common themes of trust, vulnerability, and playfulness remain in the evolved relationships that our company has developed since. Created by Andrea Dawn Shelley for the artists of Group Acorde, “Every Root Is An Anchor” is a world premiere that features an original composition by Thomas Helton for piano, bass, and cello. The work is inspired by the ancient, interconnected, and altruistic society of trees. Trees thrive through a living grid of mutual aid, proving they are far more like us than we ever realized. They heal together. They adapt together. They dance together. Group Acorde reflects and honors the past while celebrating and looking forward to the future! Gone features performances by Roberta Paixao Cortes, Lindsey McGill, Thomas Helton, and guest performers Gage Self (dancer), Erin Wright (bass) and Pelayo Parlade (piano).
